  • Everson v. Board of Educ. of Ewing, 330 U.S. 1 (1947) - the Supreme Court rewrites the Constitution to apply the First Amendment to the states, not just the federal government
  • Engel v. Vitale, 370 U.S. 421 (1962) - holding school prayer unconstitutional
  • Abington School District v. Schempp, 374 U.S. 203 (1963) - prohibiting reading the Bible in schools
  • Stone v. Graham, 449 U.S. 39 (1980) - holding posting the Ten Commandments in schools unconstitutional
