When America Turned to God: Spiritual Lessons
for our Nation from the Gulf War
Author: Richard E. Geyer, Col. U.S. Army
Reserve, Retired
121 pages, map, timeline, endnotes
Endorsed by D. James Kennedy and Prof. John
Eidsmoe
How did U.S. pilots fly thousands of sorties
over heavily defended targets with almost no
aircraft shot down?
How did the Iraqis fail to see the flanking
movement of massive numbers of U.S. troops and
vehicles?
Why did trained, equipped, and dug-in Iraqi
soldiers, supported by missiles and armor, give up
without a fight?
How did the U.S. win a war the Pentagon said
would cost tens of thousands of U.S. casualties
with a few weeks of bombing and 100 hours of ground
operations and only a handful of casualties?
These are the questions CS member Col. Dick
Geyer answers in his fascinating new book, When
America Turned to God. Col. Geyer is a Gulf War
veteran and a U.S. Army JAG with over 33 years of
commissioned service.
Drawing on 10 years of thought and research,
Col. Geyer shows unmistakably that the U.S. owes
its victory in the Persian Gulf not to superior
numbers, skill, or equipment but to the same
"superintending Providence" of God to which George
Washington credited America's victory in the
American Revolution. Col. Geyer presents dozens of
actual stories from the Gulf War and shows how
these parallel military actions in the Old
Testament, some of which took place on the same
territory.
As liaison to the U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait,
Geyer was also able to collect the stories of Iraqi
soldiers, and he presents these in a compelling,
composite account that cannot be found in any other
source.
Most significantly, Col. Geyer traces the
spiritual history and condition of the United
States since the Gulf War. By showing what might
have been, and what actually was, Col. Geyer forces
the reader to consider the disturbing question of
how God, who desires obedience, might treat the
U.S. in the future.
But he does not leave the reader without an
answer. Col. Geyer proposes a number of steps that
we, as individuals, can take to keep God's blessing
on the United States.
At the Constitutional Convention, George Mason
said this about our national sin of slavery:
|
As nations cannot be rewarded or
punished in the next world, they must be
in this. By an inevitable chain of causes
and effects, Providence punishes national
sins, by national calamities.
|
By reminding us of the Biblical principle of
national accountability, Col. Geyer has performed a
true patriot service. His book is very timely
reading and a great tool to help you see that God
is real and understand how he works in human
history. A fantastic witnessing tool!
